ADONIS (ADaptive Optics Near Infrared System) is an Adaptive Optics system available to the astronomical community since April 1993.
ADONIS is installed and operated by specialized ESO Staff at the 3.6 m telescope and can be used by astronomers without any knowledge of adaptive optics. The reference wavefront is sensed in the visible. The observation is done in the near-infrared (1-5µm) with one of two proposed imaging cameras dedicated to this instrument.
