Chapter 4 - Telescope Dome

The dome motion control system is show in figure 4.1. The automatic motion of the dome is made by a code in 4 lines. Connector B8 pins 1, 2, 4 y 5 are coded according the following table:

Connector B8 pin 3, enable the power to the control circuit via the wachdog circuit. The watchdog circuit is made by a retrigerable circuit and it is looking for a pulse coming from the axis LCU in the VME chassis. When the LCU is off or is not working at all the pulse is interrupted and that is detected by the watchdog circuit and it disable the dome motion at the same time.

There are other functions that are controlled by the circuit show in the figure 4.2. That circuit is the dome manual mode control. All functions are controlled but the inflate and discharge dome seal are not. The codes for hatchs, windscreen and lights are also transmited by 4 lines. That lines goes by the slip rings to the BBC controller at the movil part of the dome. The code used in the slip ring is the following:

The circuit for manual dome control is made with a 82S100 that is a programable electronic chip. The convertion is made inside this chip and a extra output signal is used to activate an alarm buzzer to indicate that there are at least 2 switchs pressed, and in this condition any function will be perform.

LOAD CELL SUPERVISION

At 2006 360 Telescope Dome started to have mechanical problems from its rubber based wheels. After trying without success to found in Chile a Manufacturer to renew the ald rubber wheel, it was neccessary to start the building of a new boggie design totally metallic and suported by springs. At the same time a Change Request procedure was implemented in order to measure at any time the wheel pressure, to help in the process of wheel adjusting. CRE

After the CRE was approved a project was implemented. Finally 2 documents were produced:
