Simple Image
SUSI_img_obs_Exposure
This template takes a single image of Exposure Time seconds
through the requested filter.
P2PP panel with
typical parameters
In the above example after a simple preset, we take an
unwindowed, 1x1 binned (see parameter CCD binning) V image of
200 seconds, followed by an R image of 100 seconds.
Simple Images
SUSI_img_obs_Exposures
This template takes Number of exposures images of Exposure Time seconds
through the requested filter.
P2PP panel with
typical parameters
The above example is almost exactly the same as before. In this case,
however, after a simple
preset, we take 5 unwindowed, 1x1 binned (see parameter CCD
binning) V images of 200 seconds, followed by 5 unwindowed, 1x1
binned R images of 100 seconds.
Jittered Imaging
SUSI_img_obs_Jitter
This is the only option that encompasses all types of observation.
It offers you the following choices:
- Number of Exposures how many exposures do you want of this field?
- List of Exposure Times Specify the exposure times for your
images. You can specify a single exposure time, or a list of exposure
times. The template will cycle through the exposure times listed here
until the Number of Exposures is reached
- Return to Original Preset Flag do you want the telescope
to return to the original position after each complete jitter
pattern?
- This should be set to true if you want to perform
the same dither patter with more than 1 filter inside the same
OB. Otherwise, the dither pattern of the 2nd filter will start
at the last dither position of the first filter.
- List of telescope RA offsets/List of telescope DEC offets
here you define the offsets you would like the telescope to take in
order to create your jitter pattern. Note: The
offsets are cumulative! The template will cycle through the
offsets listed here until the Number of Exposures is
reached
- Filter what filter would you like to observe in?
The remaining parameters have been described already in the Binning
and Windowing subsections of the Aquisition template page.
P2PP panel with
example parameters
The above example shows an OB comprising a sequence of:
- An aquisition template for a simple preset
- The remaining images are taken unwindowed and with 2x2 binning
- Take 4 jittered exposures of 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 5 seconds and
10 seconds through the V filter. The telescope is offset by +10
arcsec in RA and DEC before the first exposure is taken. It is
then offset by -20 arcsec in RA and DEC for the 2nd exposure, +10
arcsec in RA and DEC for the 3rd exposure, and -20 arcsec in RA
and DEC for the 4th exposure (i.e. it cycles through both the
exposure times and the offsets until the number of exposures is
finished). The telescope then returns to the original preset
position after dither sequence is finished since the Return to
Original Preset Flag is checked
- Take 4 jittered exposures of 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 15 seconds
and 20 seconds respectively through the R filter. The telescope
is offset by +10 arcsec in RA and DEC before the first exposure
is taken. It is then offset by -20 arcsec in RA and DEC for the
2nd exposure, +5 arcsec in RA and DEC for the 3rd exposure, and
+20 arcsec in RA and DEC for the 4th exposure. The telescope
does not return to the original preset position after
dither sequence is finished since the Return to Original
Preset Flag is not checked
- The telescope remains at the last position of the previous set of
images. It has not returned to the preset origin. The OB
now takes 10 jittered exposures of 60 seconds each in the I
filter. The telescope is offset by +10 arcsec in RA and DEC
before the first exposure is taken. It is then offset by -20
arcsec in RA and DEC for the 2nd exposure and this pattern is
repeated (+10, -20) until the number of exposures has been taken
(i.e. it cycles through both the exposure times and the offsets
until the number of exposures is finished). The telescope then
returns to the original preset position after dither sequence is
finished since the Return to Original Preset Flag is
checked
Fast Photometry
SUSI_img_obs_DoubleW
This template is similar to the SUSI_img_obs_Exposures template in that it takes
multiple images of an object without dithering. However, in this
template you can define 2 non-overlapping windows (you can only define
one window in SUSI_img_obs_Exposures) that can be read out very
quickly. This is useful mainly for Fast Photometry.
P2PP panel with
example parameters
The above example shows an OB comprising an aquisition template for a
simple preset. Once on
position, SUSI2 is divided up into two user-defined windows. The
first window (perhaps for a variable object) is 500x500 pixels in
size, and begins at pixel (500,500). The second window (perhaps for a
calibration star) is 200x200 pixels in size, and begins at pixel
(1500,1300). The chip is binned 2x2 and we are taking 500 x 2 second
exposures with this setup in the V filter.
