Verifying the burnt CDs: use the top cdrom drive

The below applies to w3p6drl running KDE as window manager (Jan 2002 setup).

To verify the CD, put it in the TOP CD drive. Click on the \fbox{Mount top CD} icon on the Desktop. Two windows will pop up: one will display which disks are mounted. Check that the CD is mounted as /mnt/cdrom. If so, you can now verify the integrity of the CD by copying some files across. I find the following command quite useful: egrep -l EXPTIME /mnt/cdrom/*.fits - this will go through all the fits headers to see if EXPTIME is in them.

To eject the CD, make sure that the directory where the cdrom is mounted (/mnt/cdrom or /mnt/cdrom1) is not occupied. Also make sure you are not occupying the directory in IRAF. This also means killing the graphical file manager (or changing to another directory) if you are running it. Then, click on the \fbox{Umount
eject top CD} icon on the desktop. The CD should eject.
