STAFF TRAINING

Being the staff training the most important objective for La Silla University, two type of courses are considered: Internal and External. Both courses are planned according to the information gathered from the Performance Review process of the former year, and from the Curricular mesh that has been established for each staff member. In this way, LSU ensures that the specific training requested by the supervisors -for their personnel- is performed. For further information, the LSU Training Plan 2004 can be consulted.

The Internal Courses deal with sessions in different fields fully organized within La Silla, meaning that the lecturers are members of La Silla staff and the course takes place in our premises. These courses are totally financed by LSU. To know the procedures to be followed by all staff, please refer to the LSU Internal Courses Procedure document (Spanish, pdf format).
The calendar of internal courses is organized on a bimonthly basis, information that is available at the Internal Courses Calendar page, where a calendar table shows the list of courses to be given. Each course has a ink to a "Course Profile" page where more detailed information can be found: category, duration, dates, a brief abstract, etc., and more important, a link to the course website created by the lecturer. At this site, the student will be able to download material for the course as well as exercises, learn about the contents (if indicated) and much more...

The External Courses, on the other hand, deal with sessions given outside the observatory by entities external to LSU (financed by LSU fully or partially) which are coordinated by the LSU Committee.
