Action : It should be replaced during a SOFI oberving period. Action Log : 11/21/02 2:54:07 PM gandreon Waiting for an indium seal that will be provided by Garching. 12/19/02 4:00:26 PM gandreon To be checked with Armin. 1/30/03 2:24:41 PM gandreon The work is much more serious than thought. If it is really the metioned indium ring the entire dewar has to be dismounted and this operation has never been performed at LSO. Therefore, during next SOFI run in February PSA will perform the leak test in the lab. If the leak is confirmed, during the following, longer SOFI run in March the dewar will be refurbished with the help of an expert from Garching, already requested. 2/20/03 1:59:48 PM gandreon Form the test on the dewar off instrument it seems that the leak comes from the internal LN2 tank. In a meeting with D Baade and OHA, it has been decided that a new dewar will be assembled in Garching and sent to LSO. In the meantime a procedure has been prepared by PSI to care about sudden losses of vacuum. 2/27/03 2:03:20 PM gandreon A new dewar has been assembled in Garching and it will be exchanged during the SOFI period. 3/6/03 2:24:05 PM gandreon The assembled dewar when tested in Garching could not reach the required temperature. Exchange to be posponed. In the meantime care has to be excerted during refilling, even if no new occurrence has been reported after Peter intervention. 3/13/03 3:44:55 PM gandreon Problem has been located in the cold finger. 3/20/03 2:40:08 PM gandreon New dewar has been dispatched from Garching. ETA 4/4. 3/27/03 2:51:26 PM gandreon Installation planned for the 11/4 4/15/03 2:27:19 PM gandreon The new dewar is being prepared. An insulation for the camera/shutter is being added (see other point on interference) Responsible : Engineering Dep.(Instrum.) Action Log : 1/9/03 2:15:01 PM gandreon Scope enlarged to AZ/ALT 1/23/03 8:09:03 AM ikastine Decrase of encoder heads can be achieved changing configuration of encoders in OLDB. We request technical night to test this and possible side effects. 1/30/03 10:27:21 AM gandreon Technical time: 22/2 or 25/3. 2/2/03 12:58:06 PM ikastine At 22/2 I am on vacations. 25/3 could be possible date. Change of turno is needed, but there should not be problem with beeper coverage. To be confirmed after I return form vacations. 3/26/03 6:25:38 PM ikastine Last night test results: 1) there is ~50 arcsec pointing offset when making new preset. This could be solved by making new pointing model after decreasing encoder heads. 2) corrections of autoguider changed. Using all available encoder heads the corrections are devided quite equal to negative and positive, but using less heads corrections were only negative(alpha) or negative (delta). This is sign that tracking is worst than before. In specially, I suspect that rotator tracking is not so good, due it has only one encoder head. Conclusion: Decreasing encoder heads from software point of view is easy to achieve. However, more tests about precisness of tracking need to be done using scienfitic images and new pointing models are need for both sides after change. One more test night is needed to clear doubts with tracking. 4/8/03 3:40:44 PM gandreon Feasibility has been confirmed. Tracking precision with degraded encoders will be tested during a test night. Action : Cut the cooling pipes and have the electronics inserting a PT100 in a pipe in each motor. Action : Please provide the reading of th temperature of the four motors in the same panel used for the AZ ones. Action Log : 3/21/03 9:39:28 AM jguzman Please, provide more input about hardware implementation. For AZ motors, there were installed PT-100 inside them in order to read the temperatures from a PULPO unit, which is connected to LCU via RS-232. Please ask electronics about feasibility to install PT-100 inside the motors and include them in the discussion about implementation of the action point. 3/27/03 2:58:33 PM gandreon Subject to feasibility of previous item. 4/7/03 6:23:34 PM gandreon GIH: A serious concerns regarding the PULPO capacity to read the temperatures was presented. Actually PULPOs can read 6 sensors, 4 are in use with the Azimuth motors, so if one day this is required for the ALT motors we are short in number of sensor readings. On the other hand there are no spare PULPOs and it is urgently need one for FEROS. If this is the case it is recomended to change the temperature reading system to another than PULPO and to leave this one for other purposes. 4/8/03 3:42:11 PM gandreon The possibility of using the VLT Temperature Monitoring System shall be investigated. Action : Insulate dewar. Troubleshoot the problem. Action Log : 1/9/03 2:17:18 PM gandreon Free time to work on this CCD is required for this and the O ring change. 1/30/03 2:27:14 PM gandreon A insulating flange has to be prepared by mechanics. 2/20/03 2:00:44 PM gandreon Dewar is now insulated but fringes are still present. Under monitoring by E. Pompei. 2/27/03 2:05:06 PM gandreon Problem will be tackled after the dewar replacement. 3/27/03 2:53:13 PM gandreon Some improvements have been detected after intervention with ground connections. To be continued once the dewar is changed. 4/7/03 6:24:51 PM gandreon GIH: EPO informed that actually the situation is critical, because on top of the noisy behaviour it is unstable. An urgent action is required. 4/15/03 2:28:50 PM gandreon Interference source traced to camera and shutter control. They are being insulated to eliminate the interference.
