Action : To read azim. analog board and display the processed data in Celcius deg. Action Log : 12/12/01 1:32:35 PM jguzman Deadline will be assigned after hardware implementation is specified by NTT team. My suggestions are: 1. Monitoring should be done by azimuth LCU (lt5az). 2. Two hardware implementations: - Use of available analog signals in VMIC board to read the temperature. - Use of external thermometer communicating with the LCUs via RS-232. 3. In both cases SW will implement a polling task with low priority running in azimuth LCU, as a new module. 4. If some protection for overtemperature is required i will suggest to implement a hardware interlock. 12/13/01 2:00:19 PM gandreon The PT100 will be connected directly to the VMIC board, last four points. No H/W interlock is deemed necessary. Two spare sensors will be connected in the positions that correspond to the motors still not controlled. 12/20/01 3:19:49 PM gandreon J Santana will inform SWC as soon as signals will be available in the corresponding module of LCU. 1/10/02 7:34:50 AM jguzman NTT selected the PULPO alternative. New module "nttmon" was implemented and archived. Current status is under test in SWC VLT lab with PULPO hardware but without a PT-100. It is important to test during a couple of days the stability of the connection using at least one sensor in the lab. Following steps: - Finish lab tests, depending of the availability of at least one PT-100 sensor, will take 3 days. - Connect and test at NTT: 3 days. - Acceptance by NTT. Posible deadline: 24/01/2002 or 07/02/2002 depending of hardware availability 1/10/02 2:06:05 PM gandreon RPA can provide a PT100 fro the test. 1/23/02 5:25:27 PM jguzman Monitor system was succesfully tested in SWC VLT lab with PULPO interface and 4 PT-100 sensors. New nttmon module version generated. Ready to be installed and tested at NTT. This will happend during next shift (31/01 - 07/02) in agreement with J.Santana. Responsible : Software&Commun.Supp.T. No improvement was observed with manual set up of parameters. The speed from wlsdbs and wg5off was the same as before. Fast (~5000 Kbytes/sec up) slow down (~800Kbytes/sec). There is a need to study deeply the router configuration. It is observed some speed increase after resetting all network devices. The Cisco 2600 router was put back again at the ESO 3.6 8/23/01 3:43:19 PM gandreon Investigation so far has singled out two anomalies: 1. When network equipments are resetted, performances are nominal, but after a while they degrade without apparent reason. 2. Different throughputs have be measured on the same path for traffic in the opposite directions. Again, this is unreasonable. In the latter case the location of the new control room should be considered. 11/22/01 2:28:13 PM gandreon Year end is getting closer and this point is getting more urgent because now is also linked to the new control building. 12/13/01 9:54:06 AM fgutierr A Engineer from Adexus will come to La Silla the 17-18 Dec 2001 to analize the problem of low speed of our Backbone. 12/20/01 3:14:26 PM gandreon The Adexus engineer could not find any serious misconfiguration in the router 2600 and in the gigabit switch. Having descarted these components, SWC finally located the problem in one of the two fibers linking the 220 building with A&A. Throughput is now nominal (some 60 Mb/s on a single transfer, both way). Action : After a Problem Request from NTT, Anton investigated the situation of P2PP,here is the report: 11/15/01 11:29:25 aschemrl During my Nov8-15 turno, the analysis of the problem showed the implementation and configuration of jp2pp is a MESS! There are 3p6 users running NTT configurations, which in turn are running WFI jre's. It is obvious that under these conditions a more restrictive solution would take longer to implement on kila, and may not be the ideal solution. This is not an NTT problem, it affects all visiting and local astronomers. A suggestion will be made to create a jp2pp template that will be applied at the time of lsusr account creation. This means running jp2pp on Linux machines that connect to the drl9 server. This will avoid configuration interferences and single user responsibility. This means that jp2pp would be removed from kila. Aproval of this proposal will remain pending until there is a global La Silla agreement among astronomers. Action Log : 11/22/01 2:37:39 PM gandreon It looks like a good idea. However, his implementation requires a configuration change of Kila & offline systems. To be approved by LSO Management. 12/13/01 3:07:12 PM gandreon FGU sent an email to JME. 12/20/01 3:30:47 PM gandreon P2PP installation in Kila has been cleened up. For the installation on linux boxes, the Director wants written requirements in order to formally start a small project. 1/10/02 2:18:24 PM gandreon JIB volunteered to write draft requirements, to be reviewed by OHA. 1/31/02 2:20:24 PM gandreon Requirements should be sent to OHA. These are not automatically communicated to the telescope team. I (oli) contacted USG; their response is being forwarded to SWC by email. The action requested is to implement and configure the script they sent. I suggest its generalization to all telescopes. Action Log : 1/16/02 10:20:10 PM aschemrl The script is ready. It is just a matter of picking the workstation were the result will be put daily via a cron. 1/23/02 4:02:42 PM aschemrl The script is now implemented for telescopes 3p6,NTT,and 2p2. The pid/passwd are refreshed daily at 17UTC(well after Garching offices are closed for the day). The location/name of the output files are the following: 360cat@kila:P2PP_PID/pi-3p6.out nttt@kila:P2PP_PID/pi-NTT.out 2p2team@kila:P2PP_PID/pi-2p2.out Responsible : Software&Commun.Supp.T.
