The FEROS+B&C's cal. lamps illumination unit was designed to produce a ~15mm spot at the entrance of the B&C calibration optics. This was clearly too small so A.Kaufel increased the spot size by defocusing a bit some lenses. The lamps housing has an exit beam aperture of ~20mm. and it is now limiting the spot size. To increase the aperture diameter isn't so easy because the unit needs to be disassembled ( a day would be needed). It's a matter that needs to be studied with mechanics (W.Eckert). A modification of the HeAr illumination optics may be required as well. A new study of the calibration lamp unit is then required Of course more time must be allocated to complete the project. A possible compromise will be the focus the light from Hear as well as White along a simulated wide slit covering the B&C one and the fiber inputs. Cylindrical optics could be foreseen for that purpose.
