The End of an Era: ESO Schmidt Telescope Closed

On Dec.23 1998, the ESO Schmidt telescope was closed for the last time by Guido Pizarro. The Schmidt telescope began operation in 1973, at which time Guido transferred from the ESO 1.52-m, where he had worked for 5 years, to the Schmidt. Below are some photos from the Schmidt's final closure.
