FIERA S/W Startup Procedure

The FIERA Startup Procedure should be executed once per day, before starting up the OS and TCS system.

FIERA SLCU Reboot procedure

On a regular basis (at least once per week, once per day would be better during commisioning when people are developing on the SLCU) the SLCU should be rebooted to purge any memory fragmentation etc.

To reboot the FIERA SLCU do the following:{DO NOT FORGET TO DO A "fdcStopWFOV.sh BEFORE THE REBOOT}

w2p2ins{wfi}: rlogin odt5 -l reboot
The FIERA SLCU will take <> 4 minutes reboot. If you have the window open displaying the FIERA logging messages, the system is ready for use when you see the following messages displayed.
wodt5 ccs ccsSHManager 104 61 Shared Memory Manager START
wodt5 ccs ccsSHManager 104 61 CCS Shared Memory Area (Id = 3) Not Active
wodt5 ccs ccsSHManager 104 0 Delete SHM Configuration file :
/vlt/data/tmp/ccsSHM_wodt5.config
wodt5 ccs ccsSHManager 104 61 CCS semaphore (Id = 2) CREATED
wodt5 ccs ccsSHManager 104 61 CCS shared memory (Id = 3) CREATED
wodt5 ccs ccsSHManager 104 61 Shared Memory Area Created: ID = 3 Size = 50000
bytes Addr = ee680000
wodt5 log logManager 104 61 Initialize/Configure logManager
wodt5 log logManager 104 61 Read configuration file
(NOTE: If you have used the SLCU Shutdown Procedure described in this note you cannot reboot the machine in this way)

FIERA Detector Electronics Shutdown procedure

If you need to power down the detector head electronics for some reason, you should execute the following procedure.
w2p2ins{wfi}: fcdStopWFOV.sh
This will shut down the S/W and put the system into a state where it is safe to power off the electronics, but if you want to shutdown the SLCU (SPARC), you need to run the SLCU Shutdown procedure described below.

FIERA SLCU Shutdown procedure

If you need to power down the FIERA SLCU (Sparc) in the computer room perform the following procedure.
w2p2ins{wfi}: rlogin odt5 -l halt
After 2 minutes the activity light (green light on the front of the SPARC) will stop flashing, and the machine can be safely swiched off.

NEVER, NEVER, switch off the SPARC without following this procedure -- doing so might result in disk corruption.

After you have executed this procedure, you need to either cycle power on the SLCU or use the reset swictch. The reboot procedure described above will not work since the machine is in a halted state.

Trouble Shooting

Logging

FIERA diagnostics are logged in the file "/usr/adm/syslog/syslog.log" on the machine w2p2ins, you should look here for error messages. This file also contains a log of all actions, exposure start, shutter open/close etc.

Errors, Camera Failure

If the camera S/W seems to have crashed the first step should be to try the startup script again.

If this fails reboot (using the FIERA SLCU Reboot procedure) and then try the startup script.

If this still fails, halt the SLCU (using the FIERA SLCU Shutdown procedure), cycle power and start again.

The FIERA SLCU takes some minutes to reboot (<> 4), even after the SLCU says "System is ready" it takes a couple of minutes for the system S/W to startup completely.

Rebooting or halting the FIERA SLCU

To reboot the SLCU you only need to remotely log into the SLCU as the user reboot, e.g.
w2p2ins% rlogin odt5 -l reboot

To halt the SLCU use the user halt:

w2p2ins% rlogin odt5 -l halt
After halting wait 2 minutes and wait that ok appear in the console to make sure that the disks are properly flushed before switching off power.
