Start up the telescope
(instructions here). document.
In the w2p2ins workstation,
from a free workspace, open an Xterminal and type the following commands:
cd ~/m2p2/panel
pom.pan &
Wait until the special
TCS panel to take pointing model data appears.
In the panel, press the
button labeled Cat.Select
It will pop up a catalog
selection window. Type "/home/tcs/catal/red.cat" in the selection field,
and hit Enter.
In the TCS Setup workspace,
press the button Tracker Chip on the TCS Setup panel.
In the folder labeled
Pointing Model TCS, you will find star maps with the stars contained in
the catalog you just read in the pointing model panel, along with transparent
drawings which divide the whole night sky in several sectors.
For each sector, do the
following:
Put the transparent drawing
on top of one of the starmaps (the one containing the current sidereal
time on the horizontal axis), both, the map and the drawing with the south
up.
Match the current sidereal
time with the vertical axis of the transparent drawing.
Choose a star fairly close
to the center of the sector.
Select the corresponding
star in the catalog of the pointing model panel, either writing its name
on the field "Search for catalog object" or using the buttons on the right
side of the catalog.
Press the preset button
on the ponting model panel an wait until the field telescope status is
in Guide.
Press the acquire field
button on the ponting model panel and wait for the field to appear on the
tracker display (the right side monitor).
A bright star (the one
you just presetted to) should show somewhere on the on the tracker display.
If the pick reference
star panel is not open in the rightmost monitor, open it clicking on the
TCS menu on the tracker display and choosing the option Pick Reference
Star from the menu.
On the Pick Reference
Star panel, click on the Pick Object button. The cursor should become a
crosshair when on the tracker display. Click on the bright star.
Centre the star by:
On the pointing model
panel type 1024 and 2048 in the corresponding fields, on the bottom part
of the panel, right up of the button labeled Offset to Desired Position,
to the right of the word Desired.
Press the button labeled
Offset to Desired Position.
Wait until the Telescope
Status field changes from Ofsinpr to Offset.
Acquire another field
(instructions above). The bright star should be now at the center of the
tracker CCD. You can check its position picking it up again, as described
above and if the position is not close enough re-iterate the centering.
Once the star is close
enough to the center of the tracker CCD, press the button STORE OFFSET
on the pointing model panel.
Press the button Save
Data as File... on the pointing model panel. If there is no name in the
field to the right of the button, provide a suitable one (ask Roberto Castillo
for a suitable name)
Mark with an erasable
pencil the sector on the transparent drawing so you don't do it again.
Choose another sector
on the drawing and repeat the process, until there are no more unmarked
sectors.
